A porcelain barrette, wheel-thrown for durability and for a natural arch. Trimmed/carved slightly for lightness. Sky and trees hand-painted by the artist with underglaze, then fired to Cone 6. Fired again for a gold luster trim.

This is a large barrette, so it might require a ponytail, braids, or other structure to hold it.

4 × 1.75 x .75 inches, approx. on an 93mm barrette made for fine to moderate hair.

Barrette clasp reads “Made in France,” from the original French factory, which went out of business. (I stocked up a decade ago.) The original French barrettes somehow don’t snag as much in one’s hair.

Wearable eco-art that will last centuries. I am working out ways to minimize my environmental impact— working small, firing fewer times in a small kiln, conserving glaze materials. (I still have all my glaze tests from grad school. :)
