Please pardon my repeating the moderately racist name on the restaurant— I never ate there and never knew if it was a re-appropriation, or just inappropriate. Like Hokusai made an additional 10 prints past his 36 Views of Mount Fuji-- I made a short series of 3 shots for sale as individual works. (My 36 Shots of Pikes Peak is now in the permanent collection of the museum at the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center, so I wanted some less “serious” works to be available as individual souvenir pieces.)

I was still web-addicted to “walking around” town in Google Street View and finding quirky compositions, so I continued for another three cups beyond the 36 Shots.

I stumbled upon this one while in the strip mall maze just east of our old neighborhood, and loved the floating plastic bag with the long shadow. I was reminded of the creepy/sad 1999 film, American Beauty.

Each piece is hand painted with underglaze on a hand thrown, one-of-a-kind shot cup made of mid-fire clay. Pieces are functional and usable as cups. I used images from Google Street View as photo references for my paintings.
